Kilt Pins
Kilt pins are large, sturdy pins traditionally worn on the front apron of a Scottish kilt. Their purpose is not to fasten the kilt closed, but to add a bit of weight to the outer layer of fabric and help keep it from blowing open.
Unlike ordinary safety pins, kilt pins are usually heavier and more decorative. They may have plain metal finishes, Celtic designs, charms, gemstones, or ornamental tops. Some kilt pins have from 2 to 6 very small rings attached to them to facilitate adding charms and dangles to the kilt pin. Today they are also used as a brooch, with shawls, scarves, blankets, wraps, costumes, and fashion accessories.
