Beaded Mermaid KeyChain Pattern - Free Beaded Mermaid Keyring Pattern - Fun Beaded Key Rings
Mermaids, those beautiful, mystical beings of the deep, have captivated the human imagination for millennia. Their enduring allure isn't just about their captivating form; it's about the mysteries they represent: the hidden wonders beneath the waves, the freedom of the boundless ocean, and the hidden depths of our imagination. Prove that little mermaids can be real when you make your very own beaded mermaid keychain.
All you need are a handful of pony beads and some durable cord and you'll see your little aquatic friend take shape, bead by bead. Have fun creating this great little mermaid keychain with a little bit of cord and pony beads. Add your finished mermaid to a keychain, keyring, bag or backpack, share one as a handmade gift with a mermaid lover, or make several for summer camp, classroom and group crafts. They also make fun party favors, festival giveaways, team mascots and fundraiser projects for anyone who loves mermaids, fantasy and life under the sea.

Materials Needed:
You will need one connector such as a
 Lanyard hook,
or any type of
 Key Ring.
Cord:
You will need about
2 1/2 yards of cord for your mermaid.
There are lots of different types of cords you can use. We prefer a cord that is 1mm to 2mm thick because it helps your mermaid keychain critter keep it's shape better. Alternatively, you can use a thinner cord and weave a little wire or a pipe cleaner into your keychain mermaid to help it keep it's shape that way. Either way works just fine but you can experiment with it to see which method you prefer.
One good choice is
 Monofilament Cord
or
 2mm metallic cording. Other great choices would be jute or hemp cord, leather necklace cord, rattail cord, shoelaces, ribbon, paracord, or a strong jewelry cord like tigertail.
Beads needed:
 46 - AB Pony Beads for her hair. We used a purple.
 37 - Beige Pony Beads for her skin. We used a beige marbled pony bead.
 2 - Black Pony Beads for her eyes.
 7 - Hot Pink Pony Beads for her top.
 41 - Aqua Pony Beads for her body.
 37 - Glitter Pony Beads for her tail.
Other Things Needed:
 GlueOptional: For a stiffer mermaid you can include a little wire or a pipe cleaner with your cord to help keep it's shape

Instructions
1. Find the half way point of the cord or wire you are using and attach it onto the keyring using a lark's head knot (shown in photo).
2. Begin threading the beads onto the cord following the pattern. You can click on the image at the bottom of the page for a larger, better resolution photo. When you get down to the tail of the mermaid you can refer to the image to the right for more detail, if needed.
3. After finishing the pattern tie a double knot or surgeon's knot in the cords at the bottom and apply glue to secure.
4. Weave your wire or pipe cleaner through your beaded bug keychain to make it stiffer and hold it's shape. You probably only need to do this near the top of your mermaid.
(Seed beads or E beads can be used in place of pony beads to create smaller characters.)
The illustration below uses green and red to show you how each cord side is threaded into the beads. Your cord, of course, will be all the same color.
